May I start by stating for the record that I do not nor have ever had any artistic abilities. While I have always had a great appreciation for art and those who create it, I was definitely not known as the “art kid” in high school. So needless to say I am somewhat wary about the endeavor in which I am about to partake.
Under the direction of an aspiring art educator, I am going to take on the various common mediums of art. After choosing an object, I will use the suggested materials such as oil, acrylic, chalk pastel, pen and ink, colored pencil, ripped paper, and etc. to recreate my object over the subsequent weeks.
From my prior claims of lack of artistic talent, one might wonder why I decided to attempt this undertaking. I have always had friends with amazing creative talent and they have always encouraged me to continually self-express with art. They have always urged me to not to dismiss myself as an artist until I’ve tried every possible medium. My friend who is advising me with this entire process says, “Everyone can be an artist, some just try harder than others”. I intend to work hard because I know if I don’t there is no other way this will be successful.
I have my doubts about partaking in this feat. The utmost of those doubts is the fear that this is more of a challenge than I am capable of (again lack of artistic talent). It is followed secondly by the concern of time. I am notoriously known for my poor time management skills, so I worry I could run into some time-crunch problems.
Regardless of my fears, I am optimistic and excited for this project. I hope to gain basic artistic skills and confidence in my ability in them by the end of this venture. Oh, and my roomie and I are excited for all the “creative masterpieces” to hang on our dorm walls too.
Wish me luck!
